Position Overview
The Head of Marketing in Uganda will lead strategic marketing to boost brand awareness, customer acquisition, and revenue. Responsibilities include shaping local brand identity, managing go-to-market strategies, sales enablement, and overseeing digital, trade, and field marketing, all aligning with SunCulture’s mission and global brand. This senior role requires expertise in product, brand, trade, and digital marketing, particularly in Uganda’s agriculture and renewable energy sectors. The ideal candidate will have strong strategic planning skills, a passion for rural development, and a proven ability to deliver measurable marketing impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing Planning
Develop and implement the annual marketing plan aligned with Uganda’s business strategy and SunCulture’s marketing objectives.
Translate commercial targets into actionable marketing initiatives, ensuring support across awareness, acquisition, conversion, and retention.
Brand Development and Communication
Build and manage the SunCulture brand in Uganda, ensuring clear, consistent messaging across all channels and touchpoints.
Lead implementation of brand positioning strategies that resonate with rural customers and stakeholders.
Product & Trade Marketing
Design and execute product and trade marketing strategies to increase visibility at point of sale and drive farmer engagement.
Develop marketing support materials for sales teams and field operations including POS displays, flyers, demo kits, and branded events.
Digital & Customer Engagement
Lead strategy and performance of digital marketing platforms (social media, SMS, WhatsApp, email, etc.), ensuring campaigns are relevant and measurable.
Support field marketing activities with locally relevant content and messaging.
Market Intelligence and Customer Insights
Gather and analyze customer and market data to guide strategy and product positioning.
Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and campaign performance to inform continuous improvement.
Budget Management
Manage the marketing budget to deliver high-impact campaigns within agreed expenditure.
Monitor ROI and performance against targets, ensuring cost-effectiveness of all marketing initiatives.
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the marketing team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Promote collaboration across departments (sales, CX, operations, finance etc.) to ensure marketing activities are integrated and impactful.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field. A postgraduate qualification (e.g. MBA, CIM) is an added advantage
6 – 8 years of progressive experience in marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proven success in brand and trade marketing in Uganda; experience in agriculture, renewable energy, or marketing in a direct sales space is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns across offline and digital platforms.
Commercially astute, with strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
